Day 13 (again) of 100 Days of Swift

Days 13 to 15 of the “100 Days of Swift” course make up the “Consolidation 1” section.

Day 13‘s lesson is the first of three days of Swift review.

Thoughts about Day 13 (again)

Another eight days passed since my previous Day 13 posting. Again, unexpected life events came up but this time I also got weak-willed and allowed myself to get glued for hours to the TV these last four days flipping between various cable news shows reporting about the US withdrawal from Afghanistan fiasco.

Somewhere between those hours of watching cable TV news shows I listened to “The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin” in audiobook format on LibriVox.com

In Chapter 9 of Franklin’s Autobiography, “Plan for Attaining Moral Perfection”, Franklin wrote about one way he attempted to rid himself of distractions to his important work by scheduling specific tasks for specific hours of the day. I decided to do the same, so I used the Calendar app on my smartphone to schedule daily wake-up, exercise, personal hygiene, meal, coding, free time, and bed time events.

After a noble effort, Franklin eventually abandoned the strict adherence to his daily schedule and instead used it as a general guide. I expect myself to come to the same end result. Until then, I will use my newly created daily scheduled tasks (with reminder alarms) to help me stay on the “100 Days of Swift” path and away from getting hypnotized by cable TV news.

Today’s revisited Day 13 study session lasted 3 hours and 10 minutes of actual study time. I considered moving on to Day 14 today…

but I have Day 14 scheduled for tomorrow.

Today’s total study time: 3 hours 10 minutes

100 Days of Swift cumulative study time: 41 hours 55 minutes

[Note: those are actual study time values after subtracting break-time minutes from the Day’s study session]
